Chokers for Spring 2011
The choker necklace, usually a short necklace between 14 and 17 inches long, sits very high on the neck and makes one look as it is might choke one, thus the name. It can be made of almost any material, from diamonds to felt. This year, the choker has come back in style in a big way, showing up on the red carpet and fashion shows all over the world. They can be demure and dainty or bold and brassy. Here are a few ways to get the look that’s hot this spring.
Winding Strands
If you don’t want to go out and buy a choker, you can often take an existing necklace and make it into a choker. A rather large strand of pearls can be doubled or tripled and wound around the neck to make it shorter so that it appears as a multi-layered choker. Necklaces that have clasps and chains can be hooked higher and allow the end of the chain to drape down the back.
Large Metal Chokers
To have the look of the heavy, architectural-style, chokers popular this spring, you will want to go out and buy one or several for your jewelry box. There are so many different styles out there that you’ll be able to find one that looks good on you, and makes you stand out from the crowd. As a statement necklace, you really can’t beat a good choker.
Other Material Chokers
You can even make a choker from ribbons and felt, if that look appeals to you. You can hand a pendant from the ribbon and give it a bit more substance. You can use a leather cord to fashion a choker or opt for a macramé string choker. There are a number of ways to make a choker, even with the simplest of materials.
